The Worshipful Company of Builders Merchants (WCoBM) reaffirmed its support for training and education for merchants by sponsoring the recent ‘Practical Building Skills Challenge Event’, held by the Institute of Builders Merchants (IoBM).

The Company donated £500 to the event, which took place at the Cambridge Regional College on 19thOctober. Teams of four from Travis Perkins, Parkers Building Supplies, BMF, EH Smith Ltd, Ridgeons and MKM Building Supplies took part. Activities included carpentry, brickwork, paving, painting and electrics, which had to be completed within a certain time.

Gary Hopkins, the then Master of the WCoBM commented: “Training and education for the industry are key objectives for the Company and an area where we plan to have greater involvement. Our support for the IoBM and other similar industry bodies is a top priority.

“Merchants at this event gain practical experience of products they deal with on a daily basis and competition between teams enhances team building skills. Attendees taking part benefit from increased product knowledge, enhanced confidence in dealing with customers, and improved sales and service capabilities. The event makes a real difference in helping merchants learn more about the products they sell and improve their effectiveness in the business. We are proud to sponsor it.”

The Master presented prizes to the winning team MKM and runners up Parkers Building Supplies.
