The Master looks forward to welcoming members and guests to Oxford, where a varied and fascinating weekend is planned. There will also be time to explore on your own.
The Weekend includes:
Friday 28th June
Visit to Blenheim Palace, home to the Dukes of Marlborough in the 18th Century. The visit will include afternoon tea and the opportunity to visit the Capability Brown landscaped gardens. In the evening the Master has organised a private view of the State Rooms of Blenheim Palace and the Churchill War Rooms (Sir Winston Churchill was born in Blenheim in 1874). Members and guests return to Oxford for Supper in the evening.
Meeting time & place (daytime): 4.00 pm. Marlborough room in Blenheim Palace
Evening: At 6.00 pm for the Private View of the State Rooms
Saturday 29th June
The day starts with a visit to Williams Formula 1 Grand Prix Car collection in the morning, with a buffet lunch and the option for team competitions in the Williams Games Room. For the afternoon members and guests have the option of a visit to the Ashmolean Museum, a guided tour of Oxford or time to explore on your own.
In the evening it will be Punting on the Cherwell for those who would like to join followed by Regatta Blazers’ Dinner at the Cherwell Boat House.
Sunday 30th June
There are no formal activities planned for Sunday but there will be an optional pub lunch as well as the opportunity to stay for the Garsington Opera in the evening. Garsington Opera is based at the Wormsley Estate, Stokenchurch, and the opera will be a performance of Smetana’s “The Bartered Bride”. Gates open at 3.30pm and the performance finishes by 10pm with a catered picnic dinner provided.
The weekend is open to Liverymen, Freemen, partners and guests.
The estimated cost of the weekend is £400 per person. This includes two nights’ accommodation with breakfast, coach travel on the Saturday, the costs of entry/tours to Blenheim Palace and the Ashmolean Museum, the Williams Formula 1 visit, supper on Friday evening, and the Regatta Blazers’ Dinner, with punting and champagne. It does not include the optional elements: the Formula 1 games, lunch on Sunday, or the evening’s performance at Garsington Opera.
The cost is based on two people sharing a room at the Oxford Spires; there will be a single room supplement for the weekend of around £100.
Bookings to be confirmed with the Clerk by Thursday 28th February. There will be a non-refundable deposit of £50 per person, with the balance of the payment due by the end of April. Please also indicate whether you are likely to be interested in signing up for the ‘optional extras’.
